An educator’s journey begins with the “Call to Teach” – making the challenging choice of becoming a teacher. Our River Guides described the beginning of their careers as a waterfall – full of risk, high energy, and dramatic shifts. But along with the sense of panic and struggle they shared, they also indicated the underlying values and beliefs and desire to have a positive impact that motivated them to take that leap.

Artful Teaching workshops served as the classroom/collective learning space for the project. Each year offered a participant-curated collection of arts integrated learning experiences provided by truly talented and inspiring local and national teaching artists, scholars and elders. These workshops provided meaningful learning experiences that inspired and enabled teachers to adapt what and how they had learned in their own classrooms.
