The Artful Teaching Project sprung from an invitation from Margaret A. Cargill Philanthropies for the Juneau School District to partner with the University of Alaska Southeast and the Juneau Arts and Humanities Council on a grant supporting early-career teachers’ confidence and competence in teaching in and through the arts and local culture. In our ten year endeavor to create a support network for those new teachers, the project grew and evolved, ultimately engaging over 360 Juneau educators – from those considering a teaching career, to those retiring and moving on to new leadership roles in our community.

We believe the energy and efforts of these teachers, along with the many administrators, scholars, teaching artists and elders that contributed to this project, has resulted in a healthier and more vibrant learning landscape in Juneau.
