Commitment to Teach

 “I feel really committed. I feel more and more committed all the time. And I think that as challenges come up, I think the community here, and the community through Artful Teaching specifically, has helped me realize that I’ve got help – that people are here to help and there are more experienced people to learn from, and that with the challenges kids are facing in the schools, that it’s more important than ever right now to be trying to create a space where they can feel safe and feel heard, you know, and express themselves. So I feel more committed all the time.” 

“I don’t have any intentions of stepping away from being a classroom teacher. The biggest impact I can have is on the kids that I get to work with every year and who I get to guide with every year.”

“We have so much knowledge here and so many great things happening, maybe we should listen to those voices as we’re transitioning and think about how we support those coming in with very little teaching education background experience. And I worry that there’s not enough emphasis on the good things that are happening and the people who have the experience and the expertise to continue to move our district forward.”

“A lot of Artful Teachers now are the experienced teachers in this district. And Artful Teaching is kind of like the thing that made them stay – the joy that this style of teaching still brings. So hopefully people just keep on keeping on.”
